Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY ARE COMMITMENTS NEEDED?

Similar to generosity campaigns in the past, the Taking New Ground campaign is focusing on a large-scale ministry objective. To be financially wise stewards, we need to verify the availability of resources before we can begin. Your commitment to Taking New Ground is an important step of faith, but it also allows us to proceed with confidence on these God-sized ministry goals.

WHEN DO I NEED TO MAKE MY COMMITMENT?

We asked every member and family to bring their completed commitment cards to the worship service on the weekends of October 3 & 10. However, we will be accepting commitments through December 2024. If you would like to make a commitment, you can contact the accounting offices at 816-781-5959.

WHAT IF MY FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE?

Change is a part of life, and we know that every family’s finances can fluctuate on a yearly basis. You might experience a windfall and be able to give more for a season; you might experience a job change and be unable to give as much for a time. If your situation changes, you can adjust your commitment by contacting our accounting department.

WHEN WILL WORK BEGIN?

Our church has always approached big goals “as resources allow.” In phase one of Taking New Ground, we completed the Lower Level Commons and the preschool suite. Our next phase will encompass the multipurpose area and worship center. Renovations will require the full availability of finances and approvals to begin. At this point, we do not have an exact date, but we plan for it to be in the next two years.

HOW DO I MAKE MY COMMITMENT? IS IT CONFIDENTIAL?

Commitment Cards are available in the church offices and at the welcome kiosks around the building. Once you complete your commitment card, you may return it to the accounting department or drop your commitment card in the offering drop boxes around the building. Your card will be kept confidential (just like your tithes). The accounting department will track your progress and provide you with regular updates.

SHOULD I REDIRECT MY TITHE TO THE TAKING NEW GROUND FUND?

No. Our first priority is supporting PV and its current ministries with our tithes. Taking New Ground is a gift in addition to your tithe, and it will look different for each giver.

HOW MUCH WILL EACH PERSON BE EXPECTED TO GIVE?

The only expectation of this campaign is that each person/family asks God what they should give. While the amounts will obviously be different for everyone, our hope is that each person will take ownership in the project and be led to give generously, even sacrificially. Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.

ARE THERE ADVANTAGES TO GIVING APPRECIABLE ASSETS?

Gifts of appreciated assets – typically investment securities or real estate – can be very advantageous to both the giver and to the church. A member of our accounting staff would be happy to give you more information and we recommend consulting with a qualified financial advisor.

General Questions

What are the priorities for the project?
  • We want to communicate the invaluable message of: “We were expecting you, and we’re glad you’re here because you matter.”
  • The entrance will create a clear “front door” and secure access, eliminating the multiple entrances and significant overcrowding that can occur in the current south entrance hallway.
  • A remodeled Student Worship Center will create a more engaging environment for worship and teaching and a more relevant space for fostering a deeper community among peers.
  • Families will be able to access the Lower Level Welcome Center using a new south entrance.
  • The courtyard will be an outdoor community hub for fun activities and celebrations. It will also serve as a unique space for small gatherings and ministry events.
  • $150,000 will go toward the new Pleasant Valley Counseling Center. The counseling center is for individuals, families, married couples, and students at PV and in our community.
How will the projects be funded?

Project through the Taking New Ground Campaign will be funded through commitments made for Taking New Ground Phase Two.

Middle School, High School & 20-Somethings

Will all areas be accessible for youth of all abilities?

All areas will be accessible for students regardless of ability.

Where will the college students & 20-somethings meet?

There are many options available to TwentySomethings (includes college students) after the construction. We will work internally with the leadership of Twenty-Somethings to determine the best fit for that group.

Miscellaneous Questions

Besides prayer and giving to TNG, how else might PV-ers get involved to move TNG forward?

You can share your excitement and encourage others to join you in prayer and giving.

What happened to the worship center remodel?

Our vision for Taking New Ground is broad and future-focused. We know it will take time to achieve our goals, and the Leadership Team prioritizes the projects based on the funds we raise and the need we’re experiencing in ministry. The Preschool suite was the priority in Phase 1 because it was the last children’s area to be secure.

Through designated gifts and general reserve funds, we were able to update the Worship Center platform, paint the entire space, install equipment, and repurpose our largest projector and screen for better viewing. These changes will help us move forward with minimal expense and allow us to prioritize more pressing projects like the student worship and rec areas as well as the lower drive and courtyard.

What if I want to commit after October 3&11?

If you would like to make a commitment to give to Taking New Ground Phase 2 after October 11, 2021, contact Kristie Brown, our contributions accountant.
